Intriguing Terrain
Each hexagonal tile is reversible with one terrain per side giving you great replay value from battle to battle. At 275mm edge to edge they create obstacles and tactical opportunities. Feel free to put them together to make a space-limited board or scatter them and use the entire table (or room) for your battle!
With the Rift Zone: Contact app the terrain comes to life in 3D augmented reality. The app tracks terrain effects on movement, accuracy and more. AR visuals are automatically updated so you know at a glance what you can do.
Mycelium Plains
The Mycelium Plains are vast areas of flat ground covered in threads of fungal growth. They provide firm ground that makes movement easy for all types of movement. The fungal threads and nodes stay low to the ground and have no impact on any visual or automated targeting scanners.
Fungal Forests
The dominant form, possibly the only form, of life on Proxima Centauri B is fungal in nature. Where other worlds may have sweeping forests of trees, Proxima Centauri B has expanses of massive fungal growth, similar to Earth mushrooms but growing hundreds of feet in the air.
Small units have a much easier time navigating the twisting paths of the forests than the larger units. However, even they are slower a bit by undergrowth and creeping vines.
Despite the restricted movement the forests provide adequate cover making it both harder to target and easier to evade attacks. Both sides in the conflict have successfully used the large growths to tactical advantage.
Basalt Formations
Large regions of basalt formations scattered about the planet hint at a volcanic past. Oddly, these formations are pocked with flows, chutes, and tunnels making it difficult to navigate them for anything on the ground.
The high iron content in the rock and the uneven ground make it extremely difficult to target u nits moving through them while the ability to gain some height has shown to be a targeting and tactical advantage.
Colony Building
The starships of the Scry'Ox Tsski are designed to drop from orbit and become livable bases for mining operations. They support material refinement as well as the biotechnical pods needed to grow new workers.
These buildings grow the longer they are on the ground, digging deep into the planet to access magnetic, gravimetric, and thermal energy sources to sustain the colony.
During battles the building is sealed tightly and protected by an energy field. Compromise of the colony building creates so much risk that even Scry'Ox units cannot move into the building.
Colony Building
Though mechanical and electrical the UEDF colony buildings operate on a similar principal to the Scry'Ox. The colony ships drop from orbit and, using their powerful braking thrusters, liquify the ground and embed deep into the planet. This gains access to thermal energy sources and securely anchors the tall buildings against environmental risks.
The colonists have modified the ships debris shields to provide an impenetrable barrier against attacks during a battle. This protects the civilians and the valuable manufacturing equipment housed in the ships.
Alien Ruins
There is no sign of any life forms on Proxima Centauri B other than the basic fungal growths. And yet, scattered across the planet, there are ancient structures that appear to be designed and built and long ago abandoned.
Not much is known about these ruins except that they sometimes have strange effects on units that enter them. Perhaps the strange energy readings they emenante are a boon or a bane.
